Alumna Judi Ford Nash, Miss America 1969

In the Spring of 1968, USL freshman trampolinist Judi Ford was annoyed to find out that she would have to forego her Summer job in Lafayette in order to compete in the Miss Illinois pageant. To her surprise (and even dismay) she won the pageant, and then on September 7th of that year, she was crowned Miss America. ultoday.com caught up with her recently, and discovered that she not only remembers UL fondly, but that she is also one very funny lady.

UL's Cajun & Creole Music Collection to Open Nov. 6

The Cajun and Creole Music Collection at the University of Louisiana will officially open on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 2 to 4 PM. The public is invited view and listen to the collection. The Center will be adjacent to the Ernest J. Gaines Center on the third floor of UL's Dupré Library.

UL Press Publishes Cajun Comic Strip Anthology

The University of Louisiana Press will launch the book Tout Bec Doux: The Complete Cajun Comics of Ken Meaux and Earl Comeaux today, Wednesday, October 19, in the The Kaplan Museum, Kaplan, Louisiana. Not only is Bec Doux important historically as the first Cajun comic strip, but also as one of the earliest attempts to record the Cajun and Creole dialects of South Louisiana in print.

Louisiana at WKU; Hilltoppers' Game Notes

Looking to build momentum off two straight road victories, the Hilltoppers return home to host Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday in the 2011 Homecoming Game. WKU broke a 26-game losing streak with a 54-21 win over ULL last year in Lafayette.

Last year for UL's 65th annual Homecoming game, WKU upended the Cajuns 54-21. The Hilltoppers built a 27-7 halftime lead, then after Brad McGuire scored on a 1-yard run on UL’s first possession of the second half, WKU scored 27 unanswered points to put the game out of reach.

Sun Belt Football National Rankings for October 16

The Cajuns are leading the Sun Belt in all of the national polls used for the BCS, are ranked #22 in the Wolfe poll and are getting 6 votes in the Harris Interactive poll. The season is only half over, however, and Arkansas State and FIU are within striking distance in several polls.

Louisiana Water Ski Places 2nd at Nationals

The University of Louisiana finished the year second in Division 1 at the 33rd Collegiate Water Ski National Championships, Oct. 13-15, at Tri-Lakes in Zachary, La. scoring 10,905.0 points. Two UL skiers won individual events. Lorenzo D'Alberto of Italy took high score in men's tricks with 5,370 points, and Nancy Chardin of France won women's tricks with 3,880 points.
