The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team hosted players from Tulane, LSU, USM, Lamar, Xavier-NO and Ouachita Baptist as it opened play for the fall season on Friday in the 2010 UL Invitational at the Cajun Courts Tennis Complex. Three Louisiana single players and one doubles team survived to quarterfinal and semifinal play after day one.

Seven Cajuns saw action on the tournament's first day as three flights of singles play and two flights of doubles took place.  After the first day of action UL's Yanick Mandl, Brandon Farine, Frankie Hoar, and the doubles team of Mandl/Farine have won through on day 1.  To see the brackets, click here.

FLIGHT A (Fleur de Lis) - Singles
Junior Yanick Mandl grabbed two wins in his matches in the morning rounds. In his first match against Tobias Kuhlman of Ouachita Baptist, Mandl won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. He then defeated Jan Bermeister of Southern Miss (6-3, 6-1) to advanced to the semifinals. He will face Denis Ermilvo of Lamar on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.

Newcomer Ted Nilsson started his UL career with a win over Tulane's Rodrigo Rappaccioli. After dropping the first set, 3-6, Nilsson battled back to claim the next two sets 6-3, 7-5. In the quarterfinals, he fell to Louisiana State's Oliver Borsos 0-6,4-6.

FLIGHT B (Joie de Vivre) - Singles
Robert Voss won his opening match over Ouachita Baptist's Helge Knuth, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-0. In the semifinals, he squared off against Tulane's Takuma Ohashi but fell 6-7, 6-1, 3-6.

Oscar Pachon won his first match over Sean richardson of Xavier (6-4, 6-4) before defaulting in the semifinals.

Freshmen Elliot Minvielle opened play with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Jordan Girdley of LSU.

FLIGHT C (C'est Bon) - Singles
After advancing with a bye in the first round, Brandon Fairne posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist's Ramon Romero to advance to the semifinals. He will face Amir Rahbar of Xavier on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.

Rahbar advanced after defeating UL's Daniel Alban in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

Frankie Hoar also got off to a good start for his UL career after picking up two wins on the first day. He won his first match 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 then posted a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win on Lamar's Dusan Savkovic. Hoar will advance to the semifinals and face Tulane's Coby Kramer-Golinkoff tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CT.

FLIGHTS - Doubles

In Flight A Doubles, Louisiana's Mandl/Farine beat LSU's team of Loup/Borsos 8-4 to advance while UL's Nilsson/Minvielle lost to Lamar's Ermilov/Lee 9-7. 

In Flight B Doubles, both Louisiana teams failed to advance in first-round action, with Rahbar/Aubrey of Xavier advancing over Voss/Pachon, and Ohashi/Norregaard of Tulane advancing over Hoar/Alban.
